Some users may encounter repeated “Unsynced Changes” messages on the Heptabase desktop app, even without actively editing notes.
This troubleshooting guide explains possible causes and offers steps to resolve the issue.
Possible causes
Local Data Conflict: Outdated or corrupted data in the desktop app’s local database may cause repeated sync errors.
Unstable Network: If your internet connection is unstable or you're using a VPN or firewall, it might disrupt synchronization and cause this issue.
Large Files Block Synchronization: If you recently uploaded a large file, a text-heavy card, a massive table, or many files (for example, ones imported from Obsidian, Notion, or Readwise), these files might stall the sync.
Steps to Resolve
Try the Web App
Go to our web app and sign in with your Heptabase account.
Check if the syncing issue appears in the web version.
If the web app works fine and doesn't show any sync errors, it means your online data is correct. You can temporarily use the web version and stop using the desktop version.
If the web app is also experiencing sync issues, it could be a network problem or something else entirely.
