A one-click reset is not currently available. The steps below help you manually clean up cards, whiteboard objects, and journal content in the desktop or web app. They do not completely reset your account or remove every type of data. Your account and subscription remain intact.
Before you start
Before starting, export a backup from Settings → Backup → Export now if you want to keep a copy. Work in the intended Space and review the scope below before permanently deleting anything.
What this cleanup leaves behind
Clearing objects from a whiteboard does not delete the whiteboard itself. Clearing journal content does not delete the journal date. Tags and their database properties, independent chats, and other Spaces also need separate review; do not assume they were removed by these steps.
If you also want to remove a whiteboard, use its delete action in the whiteboard list. Tags have a separate Delete tag action. Review any chats you want to keep before deleting their source whiteboards: permanently deleting a whiteboard also deletes chats linked to it as their source. See Trash and linked AI chats.
Review connected integrations, such as Readwise, before cleaning up imported content. If an integration keeps syncing, it may bring content into Heptabase again. Contact support if your goal is to remove all account data rather than clean up selected content.
1. Delete your cards
Open the Card Library from the left sidebar.
Drag a selection box around multiple cards to select them.
Press the Delete key, or right-click and choose Delete.
Repeat until all your cards are deleted.
2. Delete the remaining whiteboard objects
After deleting your cards, each whiteboard may still contain non-card objects (text blocks, drawings, sections, mind maps, etc.). To finish the cleanup:
Open each whiteboard, one at a time.
Press Shift + 1 to focus on the center of your whiteboard.
Drag a selection box to select all remaining objects.
Press the Delete key.
Repeat for every whiteboard.
3. Clear journal content
Journals can't be deleted directly from the Card Library. For each journal entry, clear its content instead:
Click on the journal card to open it.
Press ESC to exit edit mode.
Press Cmd/Ctrl + A to select all content.
Press the Delete key to clear the content.
Press ESC twice to fully exit.
After this, the journal will no longer appear in the Card Library.
4. Empty the Trash
After reviewing the items you moved to Trash and confirming you no longer need them, open Trash and choose Empty Trash. This permanently deletes items in that Trash; it does not remove content elsewhere or complete an account reset. Permanently deleted items cannot be recovered through version history.
Note: This is a manual content-cleanup process, not a complete account reset. It does not delete your account or cancel your subscription. If you want to delete the entire account, contact our support team.
