Currently, Heptabase only offers free plan through collaboration. This means a subscriber must invite someone as a collaborator. If the invitee is new to Heptabase, they are automatically assigned to the free plan. Aside from this, there is no other way to register or use the free plan.
Differences Between the Free Plan and the Regular Plan
Right now, free plan users can only perform the following action:
Edit whiteboards and cards in spaces where they have collaborator permissions
Free plan users cannot use the following features:
Journal
Having their own whiteboard and card library
Tag Database
Task
Highlight
AI-related features
When a free plan user logs in, they will see an “Upgrade” button on the right side of the screen. Clicking it allows them to start trying out a regular subscription plan, which includes a 7-day free trial.
Common questions
Q: I invited my friend who hadn't used Heptabase before, so why is it asking them to subscribe? Is there really a free plan?
If this user signed up for Heptabase before February 7, 2025, the system will retain a record, which will prevent them from becoming a free user successfully.
If you encounter this situation, you can advise the person to directly upgrade and activate the 7-day trial. If they do not wish to continue after the 7-day trial, they can still keep collaborating in your space. In other words, trying the regular plan comes with no downside, and we recommend that all free plan users give the upgrade trial a try.
